India is celebrating after ending their 11-year drought for an ICC trophy by defeating South Africa in a tense final to win the T20 World Cup 2024. The Men in Blue are now aiming for more success in upcoming events, with the next big tournament being the Champions Trophy 2025, which is likely to be held in Pakistan. Fans might witness an India vs Pakistan game in Pakistan for the first time since 2008, as the PCB has scheduled this major match for March 1.
“All board chiefs of the ICC Champions Trophy participating countries, except the BCCI, have assured their complete support. However, the BCCI will consult its government and then update the ICC,” a source close to the ICC told PTI.
According to the report, India will be grouped with Pakistan, Bangladesh, and New Zealand in Group A. Group B will include Australia, South Africa, England, and Afghanistan.
The draft schedule submitted by the PCB for the Champions Trophy 2025 includes 15 matches from February 19 to March 9. There will be seven games in Lahore, three in Karachi, and five in Rawalpindi. All India matches will take place in Lahore.
The opening match will be in Karachi, with the two semi-finals in Karachi and Rawalpindi. If India reaches the semi-finals, their match will be held in Lahore. The final is scheduled for March 29 at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore, with a reserve day on March 30 in case of rain.
The last tournament held in Pakistan was the Asia Cup 2023. However, India was not cleared to travel, so the tournament used a hybrid model, with some games in Sri Lanka.
ICC head of events Chris Tetley previously traveled to Pakistan and met with PCB chief Mohsin Naqvi to discuss security and other arrangements for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025.
