GST/HST July 2024 Payout: The GST/HST refund is issued annually between June and July. For the tax year running from January 1 to December 31, 2023, you can claim your GST/HST refund between July 2024 and June 2025.

GST/HST July 2024 Payout

Quarterly GST payments are distributed four times a year, every three months. For the fiscal year 2023–2024, payments were made on January 5, April 5, July 5, and October 5, 2023.

Although the government has not yet announced the GST/HST credit payment dates for 2024–2025, we anticipate that they will follow the usual pattern of being issued on the fifth day of July, October, January, and April.

To stay updated, visit the CRA website once the authorities release the official dates. If your quarterly income is expected to be less than $50, your GST/HST payout for July 2024 will be paid in full on July 5.

Canada GST HST Credit Amount

The amount of your GST credit payment depends on the number of children under 19 and your net income. In 2023, a married couple could receive up to $650, a single individual could receive up to $496, and each child could receive a tax credit of $171.

These payments are also affected by the tax year. Payments through June 2024 are based on your 2022 income, while payments from October 2024 to June 2025 will be based on your 2023 income. The current maximum amounts you can receive are:

  • $496 for a single person
  • $650 for those married or in a common-law relationship
  • $171 for each child under 18

We expect the payout amounts to be around this range, although it is still too early for firm projections. Unofficial sources suggest that there are discussions to increase the tax credit amount to account for COLA and inflation.

If you have opted for direct deposit, your GST payment will be automatically deposited into the bank account you provided when you filed your tax return. If you receive payments by check, you should expect your HST credit payments in the mail.

How to Claim the GST/HST Credit

If you live in Canada and file an annual tax return, you will be automatically considered for the GST/HST credit, even if you have no income to declare.

If you are new to Canada, you will need to complete an application and send it to your local tax center. The form you need depends on whether you have children or not.

  • For parents: Fill out Form RC66, the Canada Child Benefits Application. This form covers all benefits for families and children, including the GST/HST credit.
  • For individuals without children: Fill out Form RC151, the GST/HST Credit Application for Individuals Who Become Residents of Canada.

You can also claim the GST/HST credit for your child. If you already receive the Canada Child Benefit (CCB), you likely already get your share of the GST/HST credit.

If you haven’t applied for the CCB or have a new child, you need to register the child for the GST/HST credit. You can do this by choosing “apply for child benefits” in CRA’s My Account. You will need to provide your contact details, citizenship, and marital status, along with your child’s name, gender, birth date, and place of birth.

Canada GST HST Credit Eligibility 2024

The CRA will determine your eligibility for the GST credit when you file your previous year’s taxes. Besides having a low-to-moderate income, you need to meet these conditions:

  • You must be at least 19 years old.
  • You are currently or have been married.
  • You have a child or children living with you (or have had them living with you).

To be eligible for the GST/HST credit, you must also be a resident of Canada for income tax purposes both in the month before and starting with the month you apply. Additionally, there are certain income restrictions you must meet.

Consider if your child is eligible for the GST credit. You can manage their GST payment if they are under 19 years old.

When is HST Return Coming in 2024?

The Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) will pay eligible Canadian residents if they file their income tax returns and meet the qualifying standards. Many people often wonder why they have to pay the Goods and Services Tax (GST) and the Harmonized Sales Tax (HST).

Generally, filing a tax return is necessary to receive the GST/HST credit; you don’t need to apply separately for the HST 2024 return. The tax credit is distributed quarterly, with payments made on the fifth day of each quarter.

Here are the dates for the HST credit payments in 2024:

Monthly QuartersHST Payment Schedule 2024
July Quarter5th July, 2024
October Quarter5th October, 2024
January Quarter5th January, 2025
April Quarter5th April, 2025

HST rebates or refunds will be issued once the CRA processes the unpaid amounts and returns. If reports are not filed on time, the CRA may impose penalties and interest up until the HST due date in 2024.
